Safer Sac Streets

SACRAMENTO SAFE STREETS AND AFFORDABLE TRANSIT MEASURE OF 2026

WHAT IS THE SAFER SAC STREETS MEASURE?

The Safer Sac Streets Measure is a locally controlled, half-cent transportation sales transactions and use tax proposed for the November 2026 ballot. It would generate $75 million per year to fix streets and improve transit — right here in Sacramento.

As a citizens initiative it requires a simple majority (50% + 1) to pass.

Why Now?

Sacramento is the center of a growing 2.5 million–person region. Our streets carry heavy regional traffic, and most local bus and light rail service runs through our city. Yet Sacramento invests far less in transportation than other major California cities.

The Safer Sac Streets Measure addresses urgent local needs by:

  • Reducing the number of traffic-related fatalities

  • Maintaining rapid 911 emergency response times

  • Using local matching funds to bring more state and federal dollars for Sacramento

  • Providing safe routes to school

  • Improving safety for people riding buses and light rail

  • Keeping senior, disabled, veteran, and student transit fares affordable

Safer Sac Streets will reduce travel times and traffic congestion, with improved mobility and safer streets for everyone.
